This is the official website for the CityVarsity Journalism Class of 2018. This is the first time that the department has started a blog and we hope that it will continue long after the 2018 class has graduated.

I’m Chidimma, a Nigerian national presently studying journalism in South Africa at CityVarsity, Cape Town. My hobbies include reading, cooking, listening to Christian music and surfing the internet for current affairs. I am passionate about journalism and aim to enhance my creative writing and communication skills
Born and bred in Paarl, Kenya Davids is a twenty years old social justice warrior and a current journalism student at City Varsity. She is in the midst of self-publishing her poetry collection called ‘Her Rebirth’, which tells the stories of everyday womanhood, coloured culture and magical periods.
Kenya believes in girl power and is a strong advocate for mushroom dumplings.
I’m Daniël Engelbrecht and I’m a happy, go-lucky, small town boy with huge dreams and loads of determination. I’m dead set on making it big-time even though you city folk are downright confusing!
At 45 I’m the most senior student at City Varsity! I am passionate about telling stories – whether it be in print or digitally. I see my year at City Varsity as a time to learn, explore my writing and to get to know new peeps, and hopefully have some fun along the way.

Maxwell Jantjies moved to Cape Town from Knysna. He studied Screenwriting at AFDA and is studying Journalism at City Varsity. He is passionate about films, enjoys classic literature and is in love with the game of rugby. He has a good sense of humour and also a disturbing amount of weirdness.
I like to create art and destroy the patriarchy. I studied law and political science at Stellenbosch University and work for a pop-up vintage store. I can always be convinced to eat sushi, stage political revolutions or binge watch Rupaul’s drag race.
I’m Calyn Moneron and I am a severely introverted, socially awkward person who finally managed to study journalism. It’s always been my dream to become one of those writers with a yard filled with dogs, a house overflowing with books and somehow seeing as much of the world as I can. Hi I’m Zahaa a journalism student. If I were to describe myself in 3 words it would be: dreamer, creative and headstrong. My motto in life, never give up, when life knocks you down, knock it back even hard. My passions are fashion, sport and trying new things.
